Forget the trophy wife and the trailing spouse. Tony and Cherie, Tina and Harold, even Posh and Becks all go to show that power shared is power doubled. Once confined to media and celebrity circles, power couples are now spreading to business and the professions. The July edition of Management Today (published Thursday 1 July 1999) looks at the social trends which have bred these power pairings and names the couples that have the biggest influence on modern Britain.

While it is possible that neither will be a household name, they will be among the cream of their chosen profession. They control the destiny of other people's jobs and futures and their power will often extend outside the workplace.
