The Most
Admired Company awards are based on vigorous research led
by Michael Brown of Nottingham Business School. To rate the
candidates, Management Today, with the assistance of the Nottingham,
Derby and Aston Business Schools, asked the 10 largest British
companies* in 24 industry sectors to evaluate their peers
in nine specific areas. Also polled were sector analysts at
15 leading investment companies.
The
criteria were:
| |
quality
of management |
| |
financial
soundness |
| |
ability
to attract, develop and retain talent |
| |
quality
of goods and services |
| |
value
as a long-term investment |
| |
capacity
to innovate |
| |
quality
of marketing |
| |
community
and environmental responsibility |
| |
use of corporate assets |
The
participants rated each company in their sector, based on
performance against these criteria, on
a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being poor and 10 being excellent.
