Welcome
to the results of the
first ever
Management Today Online
Election.
Encouragingly
for the Tories (and after the last
few days, they certainly need encouraging),
opinion is evenly split over whether
New Labour has worked hard enough
for business to date. That said, a
clear two-thirds think that the Tories
would not have done any better, so
that round goes to Labour on points.
Perhaps the most striking result
of our poll is that 55% are in favour
of a single currency - maybe it's
time to get on with that referendum
we were all promised, so long ago.
Individual comments favour Brown over
Blair - the hard-nosed Chancellor
wins several plaudits for his skilful
handling of the economy, whereas Tony
attracts a few brickbats for spin-over-substance.
By contrast, the beleaguered Conservative
Party is described succinctly by one
respondant as lacking minsterial potential
and talent on the whole.' Oh dear. |

Find
out how Ruth Lea (illus), Digby Jones, Roger Cunliffe
and Shirley Conran manage their Worklife
balance in our fourth annual reader survey here
on .
When the first MT survey examining the conflict
between readers work and home lives appeared
back in 1998, the concept of work/life balance
was so poorly understood that we had to go to great
lengths to explain it.

It
is a measure of our subsequent success (and of
others like us) that the phrase has become commonplace
even spreading to Whitehall thanks to the
Government work/life initiative. And that integrating
work and home life is now a top priority for todays
managers, who expect far more support from their
employers than was the case only three short years
ago
.
